Thomas Parks, Regional Director for Governance and Conflict programs, The Asia Foundation

Thomas Parks is the Asia Foundation's Regional Director for Conflict and Governance, based in Bangkok, Thailand.  In this role, he provides expertise and support for the Foundation’s programs in conflict management, state fragility, and civil-military relations.  His expertise includes the design and implementation of programs that address the root causes of conflict and governance-related challenges; analysis of the political, economic and security trends in Southeast and South Asian countries; and the impact of governance and donor funding on protracted conflicts in Asia.  His experience includes conflict management and governance programs in southern Thailand, Timor-Leste, The Philippines, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  Academic credentials include an MA of International Affairs in Southeast Asian Studies from Johns Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BA in Government from Harvard University.  He has three forthcoming publications on development and conflict in Southeast Asia, and substantial field research on the conflict in southern Thailand, and civil-military relations in Southeast Asia.
