Pedro Castro

Mayor of the City of Getafe and President of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) – Spain
Has been Councillor of the City of Getafe since the first democratic elections in 1979 and then First Deputy Mayor and Head of the Youth Department. Since 1983, Mr Pedro Castro Vázquez is Mayor of Getafe, General Secretary of Gestafe Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and member of the Regional and Federal Committee.  Being an active member of the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid (FMM), he has been chosen as a representative of the National Commission of Local Government (CNAL), a permanent organ of cooperation between the local and the state administration. He was a founding member of the Forum of Local Authorities for the social inclusion at Porto Alegre.  At the European level, he is a member of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR),  the President of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and member of the International Committee of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
