Leader of the Opposition, Municipal Council of Matara (Sri Lanka)
Mr Nabavi is the opposition leader in the Municipal Council of Matara, a city considered as the economic capital of the Southern province of Sri Lanka. Since 1987 he combines  his main profession of business man with active politics. He contested as an independent candidate for the Matara Municipal Council prior to becoming an active member of the United National Party. In 2002 he was elected as the first Muslim member of the Matara MC. In 2006 he was re-elected becoming the leader of the Opposition. As the leader of the opposition and a member of the CSF committee, he plays an important role in implementing CSF activities in the city. His active involvement in the process has improved relationships between the ruling party and the opposition. Although the CSF is a new concept for the people of Matara city, it has become popular among the diverse communities due to Nabavi’s dedication both as a people’s representative and a CSF committee member. He advocates ethnic harmony among Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil communities by mobilizing diverse communities to collaborate in organizing community labor for CSF projects.
