Miguel Bermeo
Deputy of the UNDP Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery
Miguel Bermeo brings 34 years of experience working with UNDP both at headquarters and at the country level. He joined UNDP Sudan as a UN Volunteer in 1974. He has since served as: Regional Project Officer, Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (1976-1980); Assistant Resident Representative, Pakistan (1980-1982); Deputy Resident Representative, Panama (1982-1986); Policy Officer in the Division of Personnel (1986-1988); Chief of Operations for UNV in Geneva (1989-1992); UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Dominican Republic (1993-1995); Chief, Division for Regional Programmes of the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (1995-1997); Director, Programme and Policy with UNV (1997-2002); UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator, Sri Lanka (2002-2006). He was appointed Deputy Director of the Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery of UNDP in 2006.
Mr. Bermeo is a national of Ecuador and holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the New School of Social Research in New York and Bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Law from Beloit College and from the Catholic University in Quito.
