Jane Knight

Councillor in Warwick District

Jane Knight spent 17 years working for OXFAM and during that time she was the local government officer aiming at partnerships between community based organisations, non government organisations and local councils. She also helped to found the international organisation, Towns and Development, which aimed to bring together local partnerships for development between the key stakeholders in a number of African countries and India to alleviate poverty.

She also took part on Council of Europe campaigns for development education and decentralised cooperation involving local government activities in Southern and European countries.

She was a founder member of the 27 year link between Warwick and Bo districts (in the UK and Sierra Leone respectively) and was the first link visitor to Bo in 1981. After years in the NGO world, she believes that effective local government, rather than intervention from the outside, is the key to local development.
