Jan Breyne

Chief Executive of the Municipality of Ieper (Belgium)

Jan Breyne (1950) studied at the Saint-Vincent’s College in Ieper and later at the Catholic University of Louvain, where he graduated as Master in Sociology in 1972. He started his career in the City Administration of Ieper in 1972 as Director of Tourism. He became later departmental head for Communication and Population Affairs (1982-1989) and City Treasurer (1989-1997). Finally he became Chief Executive in 1997 and he still is. Four years ago Jan Breyne was elected President of the VFG (Flemish Association of Local Chief Executives). He is one of the promotors of the Peace idea in Ieper and one of the “founding fathers” of the Ieper Peace Fund and the Peace Prize.  Jan Breyne is active in various local, provincial and national associations.
